Traditional cannister household central ducted vacuum cleaner system barrier 40cm diameter filter - Far better than the standard filter or no filter at all - this really protects the vacuum motor!

Here at TVD, we do repairs and maintenance on the traditional cannister household central ducted vacuum cleaner systems, which are BASICALLY a TIN CAN with a motor or two in the bottom.

The only filtration most of them have is the paper dustbag, so any mishap with the dustbag, such as falling off the spout, or getting over-full and bursting etc and the dust and debris is ingested into the motor, leading to premature failure.

Some brands do have a rudimentary open-weave honeycomb type filter of sorts that does very little indeed, and can deteriorate over the years and disappear to nothing.

Better brands, will have biscuit-like barrier filters, that do a better job and protect the motors at the bottom of the tin can.

We fit these as an option for customers, and they definitely protect the motors and keep the vacuum and its surrounding areas, usually in the garage, clean.

They can simply be vacuumed or rinsed in water and left in the sun to dry. There is no detriment in performance whatsoever.

They can simply be trimmed to the exact diameter with scissors. They almost never need to be replaced because they wear very little. Andy 23/04/2026
