The photo depicts the current castor, but the exploded view, shows the earlier type.

The front one is easy to replace, however, the back ones require the whole machine to be stripped, not an easy job if you've not done it before. AND ELECTRICAL COMPETENCE IS STRONGLY ADVISED

If the front wheel is good and it's the old grey type with the ball bearing in it, then it may be replaced with the new wheel, and this wheel moved to replace a single rear wheel that's broken.

In that case, carefully lever the back broken wheel, straight off, in line with the axle on which it pivots.

If you haven't busted it, you'll see how it's done. Then do the same with the front, check the C clip is still on the pivot axle and you have the ball bearing and replace these parts on the rear.

Then use a new wheel on the front of the machine.

UPDATE since mid 2014, these wheels on the 15 to 20 YEAR old machines have begun to break up, and we're asked each month to replace a couple of sets.

Maximise the saving on postage and buy several Puregiene toilet rolls a box of Tissues and some soap or maybe some packets of dustbags, or a hose or a new floor tool, or some other accessories!

At the moment standard postage within Australia, is capped at a maximum of $20!

Replaced my broken castor

My Extreme had the castor break recently. This replacement part got it fixed up as good as new.

There was quite a bit involved in the replacement process from the machine's perspective, but this quality part fitted perfectly and sorted the issue.

Hi William,

Thanks for your review, I agree, Nilfisk should go back to the Phillips screwdriver, rather than the T20 Torx driver. These are user replacement parts, and non-technical people are more likely to have a phillips driver than a torx.

Front Castor wheel for Nilfisk King 505

Easy to access to replace. Not satisfied with screws each difficult to achieve a firm grip when screwed in. Screws lacked length and quality workmanship. How long it remains in situ is now the real test.

Hi Pamela,

I'm dismayed you chose to leave a poor review. If you'd checked the screws, you would have found they were a Torx 20 screw, and you'd need a Torx 20 (T20) screwdriver to fit them.

Also, the castors need to be oriented in the correct way, so the correct holes line up.

I suggest, when buying anything on line, you check you have the tools and knowledge to fit the item. Asking a handy person would have had this job done in one minute. Or you simply could have called me with a detailed message, and I would have got back to you very quickly.

I will modify the page to suggest the need for a T20 screwdriver when fitting these items.

Thanks for your review though, it will help others :)

Thanks Graeme, these are a great product! The disadvantages, for owners, is the machine needs to be dismantled to replaced the rear wheels.

With the earlier versions, the castor part could be pulled off the centre spindle, and swapped over without replacing the mounting. It doesn't work with these, as the castor, doesn't grip the old shaft and falls off.
