In "the old days" this system was put between the vacuum cleaner unit and where the bulky, or fine particled debris, or product is being picked from, to prevent the vacuum filter becoming clogged.

By using 205 drums with a rolled edge, a lid could be put on it and it then taken by forklift for disposal, or to be loaded on a truck or taken to be stored.

For the past 25 years, we've been servicing a customer who has this connected to a Nilfisk GS83 and GM83 so they can safely vacuum the swarf and chips mixed in with the cutting coolant on their CNC lathes and milling machines.

If a lid fitted with a ball-cock arrangement was used, this arrangement could be used to vacuum up wet debris, or even liquids. The fluid will be deposited in here before it gets to the vacuum cleaner. When the liquid level raises sufficiently to cause the ball float to rise and block off suction, the operator will know to empty or swap to an empty drum.

It was also made as 65 litre version.
